Best places to stay and eat in Vegas and must-sees?

My sister and I are looking to travel from Australia to Vegas over the Xmas / New Year break. I have been looking at different hotels, things to do, etc but, since I’ve never been to Vegas, I’d love some input.

At the moment, I am leaning towards staying at the Venetian which looks quite lovely.

Neither of us are gamblers so gaming facilities are not an issue. We’re looking to just check out the Strip / hotels, go to the Grand Canyon and catch a few shows.

We are looking at catching the Human Nature show, Phantom and Jersey Boys. Any comments from anyone who has seen these?

Also, where should we eat? I understand a lot of the hotels have numerous dining options so want to try and experience a few different options but without spending an absolute fortune on meals.

Finally, is the dolphin experience any good? It looks pretty amazing but I’m wondering if it is worth the price.

Come to Vegas enjoy the gambling, wild clubs, restaurants and shows. But before you leave you owe it to yourself to see the real Vegas that many visitors and we who live here know and love. Vegas is surrounded by National Parks that are spectacular. Dont miss them. Take a look at the videos at VegasNature.com. Their Visitor’s Blog has a lot of info too.

Venetian is a great choice. One of the best here.Phantom and Jersey Boys are at the Venetian/Palazzo so you should be able to get discounts for those shows if you are staying there. I do not know what the Human Nature show is????

Deciding on places to eat will be the biggest problem. Stay away from the high end restaurants. The food is great there but the cost will dig deep into your pockets. There are great selections so just look at the different places as you travel around the strip. Here is a great site to help decide where to eat.

I would pass on the Dolphin exhibit. A lot of people are disappointed at the experience … better to spend you money on other things. Here is a great site for first time visitors. Also check out the "tips"page to help prepare you for your visit.

I’ve stayed at the Venetian, and really enjoyed it. The rooms are all suites, and are really nice and spacious. We had great service there too. And you can’t beat the location – right in the middle of all the action.

The shows you’ve identified are good ones – I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Other shows to consider are one of the Cirque shows, Penn & Teller, and Lance Burton.

I’ve done the Trainer for a Day experience at Mirage twice, and would do it again in a heartbeat. It is well worth the money – you get to do a lot in that day, and they feed you well too! You go home with a CD of pictures, an 8×10 picture, a shirt, a hat, etc. – lots of momentos from the day.

As for eating suggestions, there are SO many options that it’s hard to give good advice on that. The buffets at Rio are really great, and not too expensive. I like the Mon Ami Gabi restaurant at Paris, and the Paris buffet is also pretty good. There is a revolving restauarnt at the top of the Stratosphere that is pretty neat, and the lunch menu isn’t too expensive. We ate at Delmonico’s in the Venetian, and it was very expensive, but also very good. There are a lot of restaurants in the Venetian and the attached shopping area.

There’s so much to see and do in and around Las Vegas that you could quite easily spend 10 days there and never see a gaming Table. I have been there a number of times now and think that some of the must sees are; Grand Canyon, Valley of Fire, Hoover Dam (do the tour), I would also grab a hire car and drive to Flagstaff and spend a couple of days there too, the must sees there are Sedona, recently voted as number 1 most beautiful place in the USA, the Wupatki Monument, Montezuma’s Castle, Sunset Crater, Walnut Canyon. As far as eating goes, i’d probably mix it up a little between buffets and restaurants. In comparison to what we pay here food is relatively cheap. The stratosphere is a good experience but be sure to book a table well in advance.

I’ve only been to Vegas once but here are my pointers:

–dont get caught up in which hotel to stay at–they’re all right on the strip and that’s what you’re going there for anyway–you’ll hardly be in your room anyway

—DONT eat at the bufffets –I think they’re superbly overrated and pretty pricey–all my friends agreed that we had better food at some of the sit down restaurants in vegas for cheaper

— one restaurant I remember is "the burger bar" –if you like a good cheeseburger I guarantee this would be the best you ever had

lastly, some of my favorite shows were "the blueman group" and "cirque do soleil"

–in my opinion the grand canyon is not worth that long of a drive—go to "valley of fire state park" instead–it’s only 45 minutes away and utterly amazing http://parks.nv.gov/vf.htm

–lastly, just party your as* off and have a great time

Las Vegas is a fantastic place and i am sure you will both have a wonderful time, like you i am not a gambler but i still had the most magnificient time.

If you enjoy a Steak then i strongly advise the Steak restaurant in the hotel Circus Circus it is the best steak i have ever tasted in my life.

I also suggest going to the top of the Eiffel Tower at the hotel Paris it is fully enclosed at the top just incase you or your friend may be afraid of heights.

And also go by helicopter to the Grand Canyon, i flew with Maverick Helicopters they are brilliant and the trip lasts a couple of hours.

I am sure you will have a great time, good luck.

I have never heard of the Human Nature show. Are you talking about Bodies the Exhibition at Luxor?

Sigfried Roys Secret Garden at Mirage is nice and but if they are still offering the dolphin experience go for it.

Buffets to me are the best deal since it includes every from appetiziers, to non-alcoholic beverages, entres, and desserts, all you can eat.

Grand Canyon is a wonderful, very long day trip and worth the time and expense. Bring your camera!

Venetian is a fantastic place to stay. Don’t miss Madame Tussauds Wax Museum or walking thru the fantastic Grand Canal Shops, enjoying the free entertainment and taking a gondola ride.

You do not have to gamble to enjoy Vegas. Local know that but most visitors come for the gambling and shows.

Shows! You will love Jersey Boys and Phantom of the Opera. I would also go across street to see Mystere at Treasure Island and LeReve at Wynn.

Here are things to do in Vegas and most visitors to Vegas eat at buffets. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/things-to-do.php

Any one of these shows is great Human Nature, Phantom or Jersey Boys. Being from Australia, you will love Human Nature. It’s getting great reviews.
